Last Week

We are into the last week of our holiday in Kruger, 5 nights left, we leave on Monday 27 June. Schools break up on Friday 24 June, we can already see the families arriving and camp life getting a bit busier, time to go.

We will spend time with Kim and Peter and our precious grandchildren. We are staying for Kim and Lettie's birthdays, 4 and 5 July respectively. We head back to Cape Town after this.

We are looking forward to seeing all our Cape Town family especially the grand children who we miss so much.

I can’t wait to get back on the golf course and see all my golfing buddies at the 19th.

Also looking forward to get back to my painting classes and the Tuesday watercolour group, I plan big things in art for the rest of the year, the masterpiece is coming.

Believe it or not I am looking forward to getting back to Cape Town and its weather, seeing green grass and rain again after this dry, dusty, drought stricken beautiful Kruger.

On Monday 20 June we went out at Croc Bridge and headed to Malelane where I played 9 holes of golf at the delightful and challenging Malelane Country club. I hired a cart for Lettie and I walked the course.

Tuesday 21 June we left at 06h00 and headed to Lubyelubye bridge where we sat in the dark listening for any Lion roars or Leopards coughing. we soon heard Lion roaring some distance away in the bush. We waited for more roars to see in which direction they were moving, whether they were coming closer or moving away. As the roars got louder we moved to where we though we were opposite them.
Spot on, out came this magnificent Lion who walked up the tar marking his territory and defecating,
we followed him for 2 km before he went down into the riverbed where we saw him moving along before we lost sight.

This was taken at the pan on the S130 which is now dry, yet the animals still arrive in numbers to try and drink, I wonder where they go as these Zebra were very thirsty, even trying  to dig into the mud.
Green Backed Heron ??

Nyala, we are seeing more than normal, it can only be because of the drought conditions and sparse bush, Nyala prefer dense undergrowth.

Blacksmith Lapwing and Impala at sunset dam.
Verita, if you are watching, this was taken in the tree next to our camp site, there are several species feeding on the small flowers, At last I have learnt to use the macro on my Nikon.
